Pinzel is about letting the material lead me somewhere unexpected. I begin without a sketch, allowing the clay, my hands, and the feeling of the moment to guide the form.
As I work, one movement suggests another. The clay folds, stretches, and rises into overlapping shapes, gradually finding its own rhythm. In this piece, the vertical forms seem to grow out of one another, creating a sense of movement and tension. I particularly like the contrast between its grounded base and the open, asymmetrical top — a balance that emerged naturally as I worked.
For me, each sculpture captures something of the moment in which it was made. Even when I return to the same ideas and techniques, the result is always different. That is what makes every piece in the Pinzel series truly unique.
